Andrew Cratsenberg Reflects on Family’s Million Dollar Contribution to Local Public School System
A school district in King County, Washington, Federal Way Public Schools covers all of Federal Way and portions of Kent, Des Moines, and Auburn, according to attorney and local commercial real estate investor Andrew Cratsenberg, and includes dozens of schools and academies. Here, Cratsenberg reflects on his family’s million dollar contribution to the local public school system.
The current Federal Way Public Schools district includes a number of new educational and administrative facilities, technical and acceleration academies, and over 30 elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools with over 20,000 students currently enrolled across the board.
In a move to facilitate the further expansion of the Federal Way Public Schools district, real estate investor and attorney Andrew Cratsenberg and his family agreed on a deal to allow the school system to secure a prominent site in Federal Way upon which to develop.
Attorney Andrew Cratsenberg looks back on his family’s pledge of $1 million to support Federal Way Public Schools.
Secured for an undisclosed sum, Cratsenberg explains that the original building on the site had been destroyed by fire over two decades ago. The Cratsenberg family acquired the property and, rather than allow the site to continue to sit undeveloped, reached an agreement to offer the property to Federal Way Public Schools. This, he says, was to enable them to facilitate continued growth in and around Federal Way and across surrounding areas.
Part of the agreement also saw Cratsenberg and family generously pledge over $1 million in tenant improvement work to Federal Way Public Schools. Andrew Cratsenberg explains that the family came to the decision to ensure that Federal Way Public Schools were able to move their district offices to the new site as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
Acknowledging the $1 million pledge, the now-completed Federal Way Public Schools site’s district office building today bears a plaque with the names of the Cratsenberg family, displayed in the property’s reception area. The tribute acknowledges the family’s support in an educational setting, has allowed the school district to continue its growth both by providing a suitable site and by facilitating the rapid commencement and completion of necessary construction works through their generous financial contribution.
Andrew Cratsenberg has also recently spoken out about personal perspectives on surviving cancer and the care of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as explaining tax-deferred exchanges and the necessary due diligence and environmental concerns surrounding various types of commercial real estate investment.
